Most "work from home" offers are one of two things: a remote version of a low-wage job, or a gig platform that owns your rates and your customer relationship. A skilled service business is the third path — and bankruptcy petition drafting is one of the few you can train into in months, from zero, without a degree.

Here's the model: bankruptcy attorneys need accurate Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petitions drafted for every case they file, and many outsource that drafting to trained Virtual Bankruptcy Assistants working remotely. You own the client relationships, set your per-petition rates, and take on the volume you want — from side-income to full practice. Startup costs are a laptop, petition software, and this training.

The entrepreneurial upside is what sets it apart: attorney clients send repeat work, month after month, so each client you land compounds. The training covers the complete drafting skill, includes certification as a Bankruptcy Petition Specialist™, and adds marketing bonuses focused on landing those first attorney clients.

Who This Training Is For

  • Anyone who wants to work from home or fully remotely on skill-based work, not surveillance-software hourly work
  • Entrepreneurs who want a lean service business with repeat clients and no inventory, storefront, or employees
  • People leaving commutes, layoffs, or burnout who want income they control
  • Side-hustlers ready to trade gig-app scraps for professional per-project billing

No prior legal or bankruptcy experience is required. All materials are downloadable or accessed online — you can start training today.

How is this a business and not just another job at home?

Because you own all three levers: clients, rates, and volume. A remote job gives you none of them; a gig platform gives you volume only. As an independent petition drafter you market to bankruptcy attorneys directly, charge per petition at rates you set, and grow by adding attorney clients who send recurring casework. It behaves like every classic professional service business — bookkeeping, tax prep, court reporting — except the field is far less crowded.

Frequently Asked Questions

|
What do I need to start?
A computer, an internet connection, bankruptcy petition software, and the training. There's no office, inventory, or employee overhead — it's one of the leanest professional service businesses you can launch.
Is the work really 100% remote?
Yes. Client information arrives electronically, drafting happens in web-based or desktop petition software, and finished petitions are delivered to the attorney electronically. Virtual Bankruptcy Assistants serve attorneys nationwide from home.
How do I actually get clients?
By marketing to bankruptcy attorneys — and the course includes marketing training bonuses specifically about landing your first attorney clients. Attorneys are repeat customers: land one, and the casework recurs.
Can I start part-time and scale up?
Yes — that's the normal path. Train while employed, take your first petitions on the side, and scale as your attorney roster grows. Per-petition billing means income scales with volume you control.
How long does it take to complete?
Most students work through the core training in a few weeks to a few months, studying at their own pace alongside their other commitments.
What software do I need?

We are a bankruptcy petition training organization and do not develop, sell, or provide bankruptcy petition preparation software.

For many years, our training programs have taught students how to draft bankruptcy petitions using the free downloadable demo version of Best Case Bankruptcy software by Stretto, one of the most widely used bankruptcy petition preparation platforms among bankruptcy law firms. We are not affiliated with Stretto and do not receive compensation from them.

Stretto now also offers a cloud-based version of Best Case Bankruptcy that runs through a web browser. While the cloud edition is convenient because it can run in a web browser on any computer operating system, it includes a limited free trial period, whereas the traditional desktop edition, which installs on a Windows computer (or can run on a Mac computer using software such as Parallels), continues to provide a demo environment for learning purposes for as long as it is installed.

We encourage students to use the desktop edition while completing our training courses so that they can practice drafting the forms, schedules, and other components of a bankruptcy petition in an environment similar to what many bankruptcy law firms use.

Later, when accepting paid work drafting bankruptcy petitions for attorneys, you will use the software that the attorney or law firm is licensed for and uses, which they will provide you access to.

While each major bankruptcy software platform takes a slightly different approach to completing the forms and schedules of a bankruptcy petition, they all complete the same standardized bankruptcy forms and schedules. Our training courses teach you the petition process itself — which applies across all bankruptcy software products.
