Teachers are handed the same short list of side incomes every year: tutoring, summer school, selling lesson plans — all of it more teaching, at teaching rates. Bankruptcy petition drafting is a genuinely different option: skilled, quiet, work-from-home document work that bills per petition, not per hour, for clients outside the education economy entirely.

The fit is better than it first sounds. Teaching runs on the exact habits petition work demands: meticulous documentation, hard deadlines, juggling detailed records for dozens of people at once, and following precise regulatory requirements. Attorneys prize those habits — and the school calendar hands you a built-in busy season: summer.

The training is self-paced video — start it over a break, finish it in found hours — and covers every form and schedule of the Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petition, with certification as a Bankruptcy Petition Specialist™ included.

Who This Training Is For

  • Teachers who want summer and school-break income at professional rates
  • Educators supplementing a salary that hasn't kept up — without taking on more teaching
  • Teachers considering an eventual off-ramp from the classroom who want a portable skill ready first
  • Retired teachers who want flexible, detail-driven work from home

No prior legal or bankruptcy experience is required. All materials are downloadable or accessed online — you can start training today.

Why not just tutor?

Tutoring pays hourly, happens on evenings and weekends when families are available, and is still teaching — the same energy you just spent all day. Petition drafting is asynchronous desk work you do whenever suits you, billed per completed project at rates set by the legal market rather than the local tutoring market. For the summer especially, a handful of petitions can outearn a season of tutoring blocks — without a single scheduled appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

|
Can I realistically do this only in summers and breaks?
Yes. The work is per-petition, so you can concentrate volume in summer and keep a light load — or none — during the school year. Attorneys assign work case by case, not on a schedule you must staff.
Do teaching skills really transfer?
Directly. IEP paperwork, gradebooks, compliance documentation, and deadline-driven record keeping are the same discipline petition drafting runs on — precise data, organized into required formats, delivered on time. The training adds the bankruptcy-specific forms and rules.
Do I need any legal background?
No. The video lessons assume zero legal experience and walk through every form and schedule step by step, with a hands-on workbook using de-identified real client data.
Could this become more than a side income?
For some students it does — attorney clients send recurring casework, so a summer side practice can grow into a fuller remote business if you ever want an off-ramp from the classroom. The course's marketing bonuses cover landing those attorney clients.
How long does it take to complete?
Most students work through the core training in a few weeks to a few months, studying at their own pace alongside their other commitments.
What software do I need?

We are a bankruptcy petition training organization and do not develop, sell, or provide bankruptcy petition preparation software.

For many years, our training programs have taught students how to draft bankruptcy petitions using the free downloadable demo version of Best Case Bankruptcy software by Stretto, one of the most widely used bankruptcy petition preparation platforms among bankruptcy law firms. We are not affiliated with Stretto and do not receive compensation from them.

Stretto now also offers a cloud-based version of Best Case Bankruptcy that runs through a web browser. While the cloud edition is convenient because it can run in a web browser on any computer operating system, it includes a limited free trial period, whereas the traditional desktop edition, which installs on a Windows computer (or can run on a Mac computer using software such as Parallels), continues to provide a demo environment for learning purposes for as long as it is installed.

We encourage students to use the desktop edition while completing our training courses so that they can practice drafting the forms, schedules, and other components of a bankruptcy petition in an environment similar to what many bankruptcy law firms use.

Later, when accepting paid work drafting bankruptcy petitions for attorneys, you will use the software that the attorney or law firm is licensed for and uses, which they will provide you access to.

While each major bankruptcy software platform takes a slightly different approach to completing the forms and schedules of a bankruptcy petition, they all complete the same standardized bankruptcy forms and schedules. Our training courses teach you the petition process itself — which applies across all bankruptcy software products.
