Retirement income doesn't always stretch the way the plan said it would. But the usual fallbacks — retail shifts, gig-app driving — waste the most valuable asset a retiree has: a career's worth of professional discipline. Bankruptcy petition drafting is skilled, respected, work-from-home income that puts that experience back to work.

The work suits this season of life. It's done at a desk, at your own pace and volume — a petition or two a month to supplement Social Security, or a fuller practice if you want one. No commute, no boss, no lifting, no schedule imposed on you. Just careful, detail-oriented document work for attorneys who value exactly the reliability that decades of working life build.

The training teaches Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petition drafting from the ground up — clear, over-the-shoulder video lessons you can rewatch as often as you like — and includes certification as a Bankruptcy Petition Specialist™.

Who This Training Is For

  • Retirees who need to supplement Social Security or retirement savings without going back to a job
  • Semi-retired professionals who want meaningful part-time work that respects their experience
  • Anyone 55+ planning ahead for a flexible income bridge between career and full retirement
  • Detail-oriented people from any career — office, finance, education, government — whose habits transfer directly

No prior legal or bankruptcy experience is required. All materials are downloadable or accessed online — you can start training today.

Is it too late to learn something this new?

The honest answer: this is a forms-and-procedure skill, not a technology career or a physical trade. If you can use email, a word processor, and web-based software — and you can follow detailed instructions carefully — you can learn petition drafting. The video lessons are self-paced and rewatchable, the workbook lets you practice on real (de-identified) client data before any real work, and there is no clock running on how long you take.

Frequently Asked Questions

|
Am I too old to start this?
No. Attorneys hiring petition drafters care about accuracy and reliability — qualities that favor experience. Many of our students come to this after full careers in other fields.
How computer-savvy do I need to be?
Comfortable, not expert. If you can manage email, browse the web, and fill in on-screen forms, you have the technical foundation. The bankruptcy software used for drafting is walked through step by step in the videos.
Can I keep it small — just occasional work?
Yes. The work is per-petition, so you set the volume. Some students draft a handful of petitions a month as supplemental income; others build a fuller remote practice. Both are normal.
Who would I work for?
Bankruptcy attorneys, remotely — you draft, the attorney reviews and files. Course bonuses include marketing training for landing your first attorney clients.
How long does it take to complete?
Most students work through the core training in a few weeks to a few months, studying at their own pace alongside their other commitments.
What software do I need?

We are a bankruptcy petition training organization and do not develop, sell, or provide bankruptcy petition preparation software.

For many years, our training programs have taught students how to draft bankruptcy petitions using the free downloadable demo version of Best Case Bankruptcy software by Stretto, one of the most widely used bankruptcy petition preparation platforms among bankruptcy law firms. We are not affiliated with Stretto and do not receive compensation from them.

Stretto now also offers a cloud-based version of Best Case Bankruptcy that runs through a web browser. While the cloud edition is convenient because it can run in a web browser on any computer operating system, it includes a limited free trial period, whereas the traditional desktop edition, which installs on a Windows computer (or can run on a Mac computer using software such as Parallels), continues to provide a demo environment for learning purposes for as long as it is installed.

We encourage students to use the desktop edition while completing our training courses so that they can practice drafting the forms, schedules, and other components of a bankruptcy petition in an environment similar to what many bankruptcy law firms use.

Later, when accepting paid work drafting bankruptcy petitions for attorneys, you will use the software that the attorney or law firm is licensed for and uses, which they will provide you access to.

While each major bankruptcy software platform takes a slightly different approach to completing the forms and schedules of a bankruptcy petition, they all complete the same standardized bankruptcy forms and schedules. Our training courses teach you the petition process itself — which applies across all bankruptcy software products.
